The backbone of every web page is made up of HTML (Hyper-Text
Markeup Language) code.
However, since HTMl is very limited to it's functionality there
are other markup languages that work in conjunction with HTML
such as DHTML, XHTML, XML and iHTML. For added measure theres
Cascading style sheets (CSS).
DHTML (Dynamic
HTML)
As mentioned above, Dynamic HTML (DHTML) is primarily used to
create Menu systems such as drop down menus etc.

CSS (Cascading
Style Sheets)
Cascading style sheets are a fantastic way of formatting layouts
in webpages. CSS allows you to specify colours, sizes, layouts
for literally every aspect of your page. If you have a website
with thousands of pages then CSS is an excellent way of customising
the whole site with only a few changes in code.
